Undergraduate

Currently the University of Edinburgh is the only HEI in Scotland to provide a full 4-year Undergraduate Degree Programme in Chinese language, including a one year Residence Abroad. Chinese Language Requirements: There are no Chinese language proficiency requirements for admission to this programme.

Postgraduate

Postgraduate Chinese degree programmes are currently available at two institutions in Scotland:

• The University of Edinburgh

Currently the University of Edinburgh is the only HEI in the UK to provide Chinese language teaching at the Postgraduate level. It is also the only Scottish HEI to provide postgraduate degree programmes in Chinese Studies. These include A 2-year Master of Chinese Studies programme with intensive language training , a 1-year MSc programme, and a 3-year PhD programme.

Chinese Language Requirements:
There is no Chinese proficiency requirement for applicants to the Master of Chinese Studies and MSc programmes. Chinese language proficiency level required for the PhD programme will depend on the applicant’s proposed research topic.

• Heriot-Watt University

Heriot –Watt University has recently established two postgraduate programmes in Chinese Translation. They are the Chinese-English Translating And Conference Interpreting MSc/Diploma/Certificate and the MSc in Translation and Computer-Assisted Translation Tools (Chinese-English).

Chinese Language Requirements:
Native/near-native command of Chinese is required for admission to these programmes.
